THERE could be a new name on Doncaster Table Tennis Association’s Premier Division trophy come next May.

Holders Pegler A, who have lifted the Premier Division title six times in the last seven years, are playing as Blaxton A this year as a result of losing their traditional Springwell Lane venue.

But despite retaining the services of Dave Grocock, last season’s League Singles champion, and Mick Thornley, who partnered him to the League Doubles title, Blaxton team will again come under pressure from St Mary’s A.

They have retained Steve Morris, Dave Heppinstall and Greg Barker.

The club’s B team, which features the likes of Ian Denton and Peter France, could also find themselves in the mix as could the Blaxton side which finished third last year.

They have moved to the Scunthorpe Table Tennis Club and with a stronger squad than last year, could threaten last year’s top two.

Last season’s Division One champions St Mary’s C have split their squad up to form two teams in order give their promising youngsters more opportunity.

That could let in either last season’s runners-up Superdrug or third-placed YMCA D who both remain mainly unchanged. The 2011-12 campaign got under way last week with nine teams in each of the two divisions.
