Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters in narrow cup exit

Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters are out of the National Cup, narrowly beaten at home in the second round.

A magnificent 37-point display by Teresa Manigrasso took Team Northumbria to a 79-73 win at All Saints.

Hatters had the slight edge in a high-scoring first half, leading 49-46 with Estela Royo Torres scoring 15 points.

However, the third quarter saw the hosts’ lead quickly evaporate, as Team Northumbria jumped out in front ahead of the final period at 67-62. Having scored 22 points in the second half of the game, Manigrasso singlehandedly held the opponents at bay and secured a win for the Northumbrians.

No other player finished in double digits for Team Northumbria, with Racheal Bland and Nicolette Fong Lyew Quee finishing with nine points apiece for the winners. Torres had a team-high 20 points for Hatters, while Helen Naylor chipped in with 15.

Team Northumbria will now face the winner of the second round tie between Brixton Topcats and London Westside in the quarter finals.
