Unbeaten champions aren't jammy - it's down to doughnuts
THEY'RE the top side in their sport and they've done it with the help of doughnuts!
But there was nothing jammy about the superb basketball success of Sheffield Junior Sharks in the National Under-15 Basketball Championships.
The Sheffield boys, undefeated all season, crowned their campaign by beating Manchester Magic in the national final at RAF Cranwell.
The young Sharks were comfortably the top side in their domestic league, and one incentive for them each game was that if they reached the 100-point mark, they got jam doughnuts afterwards.
"I certainly think it spurred them on sometimes to make sure they got past 100 points so they'd get their doughnuts," said team coach Mike Talbot. "But they've been excellent all season and to go through unbeaten is a marvellous achievement."
After winning their league they went into the play-offs and worked their way through before progressing to finals day at RAF Cranwell.
In the semi-final they beat Surrey-based Spelthorne Atoms and then, in their closest game all season, beat Manchester Magic 71-64 in the final.
The squad is Connor Faulkner, Calvin Morant-Hudson, Beau Johnson, Sam Williamson, Jack Sollitt, Atif Khan, Jim Rose, John Stewart, Devon van Oostrum, Alex Knight and Anton Smith.
They will be presented with the trophy and medals before Sheffield Sharks' BBL fixture at home to Leicester tonight.
