Tough luck as Sharks start new season

Sheffield Sharks will begin the season with the toughest possible schedule after the BBL Trophy fixtures were announced yesterday.

The BBL campaign will tip off this year with the group stages of the Trophy.

Sharks have been drawn alongside Newcastle Eagles and Glasgow Rocks, with the winner progressing to the semi-finals.

It couldn't have been a harder pair of clubs for Sharks.

Newcastle are the reigning league and Trophy champions, and Rocks are the team that ended Sheffield's season in the play-off semi-final last time out.

The Sharks will begin against Rocks at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield on Friday September 17 before travelling to Newcastle a week later.

They'll go on to Glasgow for a Sunday evening match two days later (September 26) and end the opening stage at home to the Eagles on Friday October 8, which is also the group's final match.

Sharks have a bye in the first round of the BBL Cup, a competition they won last season. Plymouth Raiders or MK Lions await them in the last eight in Sheffield on Friday November 12.
