Glasgow Rocks 73
Sheffield Sharks 94
The Sharks pulled off a remarkable win last night at Rocks to clinch a 162– 156 aggregate triumph and book their place in the semi-finals of the BBL Play-offs.
Trailing by 15 points after losing the first leg 68-83 at the EIS on Friday, Sheffield needed something special to ensure their season didn’t end north of the border.
And they certainly got it as 23 points from Ryan Patton, 20 by Paul Williams and 19 from Olu Babalola ensured the victory. Sheffield were ice cool from the free throw as they made 31 of their 33 attempts.
Sharks seemed to be out of the tie when Rocks moved to 10-16 up in the first quarter – an overall lead of 21.
And despite taking the lead with a 7-0 run midway through the second quarter at 28-24 things looked bleak for Sheffield when Rocks’ Mike Copeland completed a three-point play to make it 32-32.
However, a Ryan Patton three began a 10-0 burst in the final two minutes of the first half to blow the match wide open at 42-32.
Patton and small forward Babalola figured prominently in the third and fourth quarters to help send the Sharks through to a last four tie with Newcastle Eagles.
