TC says Tuck can lead Sharks revival

SHEFFIELD Sharks legend Todd Cauthorn is backing Mike Tuck to lead the club out of their recent bad run of form.

Cauthorn, who won two BBL Championships and five BBL Cups with the Sharks in a career that saw him score 4,252 points for the club, said that Canadian Tuck has what it takes to inspire the team.

He said: “Mike is a player that has a presence at both ends of the floor. He hustles hard, is good offensively and is the type of person that makes things happen.”

There are many similarities between the two. Both Cauthorn and Tuck have the kind of ‘blue collar’ mentality that has made the Sharks one of British basketball’s most successful clubs. And in their playing style they both possess the ability to score points heavily but also do the little things that make their teammates better.

“Mike is really good at setting screens that gets other guys open - in that regard he’s a lot like me,” said Cauthorn.

“I think occasionally the team has to realise that once he’s done that it leaves him free.

“Mike’s quick up and down the floor. When the Sharks have run the fast break this season then it’s usually him and Jimmy Langhurst leading the way.”

Sharks are at home on Friday against title-chasing Worcester after losing three of their last four matches.

Cauthorn said: “Mike would be the first to say he’s not hit the heights of last season, but he can turn it around.”
