Report: DBL Sharks Sheffield 98 Glasgow Rocks 90

The Sharks, fourth in the British Basketball League table, closed the gap to Glasgow to two points after a pulsating win in a frenetic and intensely-fought game.

The Rocks started the stronger, opening up a slender lead before the Sharks’ Jordan Davis set to work, a superb lobbed assist for Malcolm Riley putting Sheffield into the lead for the first time in the game before Davis then put the finishing touches to an 11-0 Sharks run.

Back surged the Rocks, putting together an 8-0 run of their own, before Davis again took the game by the scruff of its neck to put the Sharks up 23-21 at the end of the first period.

The Sharks stormed into a lead at the start of the second, more magic from Davis - who ended the first half with 10 points, six assists and 100% shooting accuracy - combined with sharp shooting from Riley and Rashawn Rembert put together a 9-0 run to send the home side into a 41-38 half time lead.

The lead changed hands once more in a frantic start to the third with a 7-0 Rocks run, before Davis claimed a hat-trick of assists allowing Riley and Wroblicky to put the Sharks back in front.

The Sharks took a slender 63-61 lead into the final quarter, starting with an 8-2 run before another scoring run from the Rocks took them to within four points of forcing overtime.

However that was as close as the visitors came as Wroblicky, captain Mike Tuck, Rembert and Davis put away more crucial chances to close the game out 98-90.

Sharks head coach Atiba Lyons said: “We came out first half and did a really good job - offensively we played well tonight.

“Glasgow did some terrific things to try to put that pressure on us and keep that gap close, but we kept our nerve and knocked free throws down when we had to.

“One of the things I addressed after Bristol was that our execution was sub-par, especially towards the end.

“I told them there’s a lot of teams with talented players but the teams that win are the teams who can execute down the stretch. I think they took that on board and were a lot stronger and more patient.”
