Cheshire Jets 98 Sheffield Sharks 77

SHEFFIELD Sharks will face Leicester Riders in the first round of the Play-offs after a second half capitulation last night in Chester.

Needing to beat Cheshire Jets to clinch sixth place in the BBL Championship they were outscored 50-31 over the final two quarters to lose convincingly.

The Jets now end the season a spot higher and with a seemingly easier play-off tie against Worcester Wolves.

Sharks had begun well and opened up a 14-8 lead before the Jets levelled the match at 16-16. However, Ryan Patton, who always seems to play well in Chester ended the first quarter with a three to put Sharks 23-20 ahead.

Sheffield’s three-point lead was soon turned into a double-digit one as Nate Reinking, Patton and Jimmy Langhurst all scored.

The advantage peaked at 33-22 before the Jets began to battle back.

First Colin O’Reilly connected from long range and then Matt Schneck scored four quick points to trim the margin back to 40-39.

Olu Babalola made a three to make it 43-39 but Jets ended the half on a 9-3 burst to lead at the interval 48-46.

Sheffield re-took the lead at 57-56 on a Patton three but they would only score two more points in the third quarter as Cheshire put together a match-winning run of 18-2 to take a 74-59 advantage into the final stanza.

O’Reilly started the burst with a three and Sharks were unable to stem the flow of points.

Sharks couldn’t get any closer than 15 points in the fourth quarter, with Jets lead extending to a high of 96-70.

SHARKS: Babalola 18, Langhurst 16, Patton 16, Tuck 11, Reinking 10, Sing 4, Gachette 2.
