SHEFFIELD Sharks coach Atiba Lyons believes point guard BJ Holmes can help his team to victory over title-chasing Leicester Riders on Sunday, writes Richard Fidler.
And although he couldn’t help Sheffield beat Leicester when the teams met in a two-legged BBL Cup semi-final, Lyons said he’ll be a key figure Loughborough University.
“The last time we played them BJ had only just joined us so he’s had more time to settle in now,” he said.
“Leicester are a good team so this will be a good test to see how we’re developing.”
Riders, like the Sharks, are in the BBL Trophy semi-finals.
Both sides will find out their last four opponents this weekend as Newcastle Eagles take on Worcester Wolves tomorrow for the right to play Leicester and Cheshire Phoenix play Worthing Thunder on Saturday to set up a clash wth Sheffield.
Sharks have won five of seven matches since December 30 and Riders’ coach Rob Paternostro believes they are an improved side: “This will be our fourth game with the Sharks so we have a good understanding of their personnel.
“I like what BJ Holmes has given them, he is a talented guard who plays with intelligence which has made them a better team.
“It is important that we keep Mike Tuck and Demetrius Jemison off the boards, both have shown the ability to do well on the glass.”
