SHEFFIELD Sharks forward Andrew Bridge says tonight marks the start on an important spell for the club.
Sharks travel to bottom of the table Mersey Tigers in the BBL Championship tonight with hopes of making it three wins in a row after beating Manchester Giants twice - once in the final match of 2012 and then again in their first game of 2013.
Sterner tests for Sheffield than the Tigers await next weekend with away matches at title favourites Newcastle Eagles on Friday January 18 and then a trip further north two days later to take on Glasgow Rocks.
However, Bridge said the Sharks are much-improved in recent weeks: “It’s nice to win back-to-back, and we’re playing a bit better.
“The fixtures have fallen nicely for us, but it’s a big month ahead of us with games against Newcastle, Glasgow and Leicester.
“So we have some big tests coming up, which is why it’s important that we get the win on Friday.”
Sharks are working on arranging their BBL Trophy quarter-final home tie with Glasgow Rocks. With it being at the English Institute of Sport it is likely to take place on a Friday evening, which may mean a Championship fixture has to be rearranged for later in the season.
