SHEFFIELD Sharks player-coach Atiba Lyons says playing with confidence was key to victory over Cheshire Jets on Friday night.

It was Sharks first match of 2012 and was played without point-guard Jimmy Langhurst (visa problems) and centre Justin Dobbins (back injury).

But Lyons said his six remaining players were encouraged to perform without fear: “Everyone clicked and knew what they had to do and executed their plays. One thing I emphasise is play with confidence. I think sometimes guys miss a couple of shots and let their heads drop but there’s no reason for that.

“I’ll never be in someone’s neck for not hitting every shot. I think we came out a bit more loose and that showed.”

The experienced Olu Babalola had his best game of season with 27 points.

Lyons said he wasn’t surprised: “For the older guys I just expect this kind of play.”
