ATIBA Lyons says the Sharks just want to win the match not spoil the party at BBL Cup winners Newcastle Eagles tonight.

Sheffield’s player-coach has had the pleasure of raising the cup the previous two seasons but lost his grip on it when Plymouth beat the Sharks in the quarter-finals earlier this season.

He said: “We haven’t approached the match in the way of having animosity for Newcastle winning the cup. If they’d have knocked us out maybe, but we just want to go up there and perform.”

Lyons will have Justin Dobbins available after a back injury and is hopeful that Jimmy Langhurst’s paperwork issues will be resolved for the point guard to play for the first time since before Christmas.

Sharks have lost twice to Newcastle this season but Lyons insists his team have changed significantly since then.

He said: “There’s no doubt we have improved and grown as a team. I know Newcastle will have changed as well but as a group we’ll have come on more because we had further to go.

“We only had two players return from last season and had a lot of new pieces while they were already a title-winning bunch of players.”
