Sharks coach Lyons to go big on aggression
SHEFFIELD Sharks player-coach Atiba Lyons says his next key decision is signing someone to add aggression to his line-up.
He is closing in on the signing of Worthing Thunder point-guard Ryan Patton but wants to follow that up with a fiesty big man.
"We missed a guy last year who could bang down low and give us an inside presence," said Lyons.
Currently in New York until returning to Sheffield in early August, Lyons added that he was he was pleased to have sorted out his future after confirming a new two-year deal.
"It was always the intention that I would be here for a while and have a long-term situation with the Sharks, so it is good to put pen to paper," he said.
"The close season has been much more natural to get into this year, having been through a pressurised one last year."
We're looking more for someone who can chase down rebounds and get the ball rather than a finesse scorer."
It is likely that the player Lyons talks of will fill up one of his import berths on the Sharks roster, but the coach hasn't given up hope on recruiting a home-grown product.
"The easy option is to bring in an American," he said.
"I'm exploring British guys or using a 'Bosman' signing, which would give us more flexibility on how we use our Americans.
"I'm looking at a lot of film at the moment and we're talking to people, so it's going to be a busy summer."
