Sharks forward Olu Babalola says the team has everything it needs to add the Play-off title to the BBL Cup.
Babalola was the key figure behind Sharks’ brilliant 98-78 semi-final win over Newcastle Eagles on Sunday.
The former Newcastle player scored 32 points and 14 rebounds as Sheffield came back from 15 points down overall in the two-legged tie to clinch a meeting with Mersey Tigers at the NIA in Birmingham on Saturday. He said: “We have everything we need and we have chosen the right time to come together in regards to making the right plays.
“We have the best big man in the league (Paul Williams) and the best shooters in the league (Ryan Patton and Steve Dagostino).
We feel we can go to the NIA and get the result.”
After joining Sharks squad midway through the season, Babalola has often taken a backseat to the established scoring threat of Patton and Dagostino.
However, with the season on the line on Sunday he knew he had to play his best basketball. He said: “I knew I needed to step up not only offensively but defensively guarding Charles Smith – he’s a big time scorer for them.
“That was my main focus but the shots were dropping for me in the first quarter so I just rode the wave. As I’m getting older I’m learning to take the game as it comes.
“The younger guys may feel that I have to push it. It’s my job to say calm down and it’ll come. We weren’t where we supposed to be, but it wasn’t over.
“We knew that if we came out aggressive in the third quarter it could change the whole game and that’s exactly what happened. We pounded the ball inside, made our free throws and it changed the game.”
