Sharks alert to Raiders danger

Sharks player-coach Atiba Lyons says his team can't look beyond tonight's match against Plymouth Raiders at the EIS.

With Sunday's BBL Cup final against Mersey Tigers just days away Lyons is aware of the threat the Raiders pose.

"They are a very talented team," he said. "Defensively we need to be aggressive and try to limit their good looks. The mix of Evaldas Zabas, Chez Marks and now the addition of Jerome Gumbs gives them a very talented back court. They have been playing very well of late and with a lot of confidence. It is important we come out focused. Last time we played them their big guys played very well for them. Anthony Rowe and Otis Polk are strong inside. We need to match their intensity."

Sharks had little trouble winning for the first time in 2011 last Friday against Essex Pirates 82-42. Lyons was happy with how his team played against the BBL's basement side:

"I thought we were much more focused on the defensive end of the court against the Pirates. We didn't shoot the ball very well but our defence made up for it. We will still need to improve on both ends of the court. I thought we committed some silly turnovers. Steve Dagastino and Paul Williams played well for us."

Raiders coach Gavin Love says his team can't wait to get back on the court after Sunday's victory over league leaders Mersey Tigers:

"After a good weekend I like the fact we have another game so soon," he said. "We have had too many breaks this season all ready so we are looking forward to it. Having played the Sharks twice at their place we are quite familiar with them, they are a strong team with good veterans who know how to win."
