HE may be approaching the end of his basketball career, but at the ripe old age of 38 Sheffield Sharks shooting guard Nate Reinking is still fulfilling his dreams.
After a lifetime in the sport, Reinking will line up for Great Britain against the might of the USA national team tomorrow night at the MEN Arena in Manchester.
Born in Ohio, Reinking is a naturalised Brit after playing for the Sharks long enough to qualify for a passport.
Now a key part of the Great Britain squad Reinking is eager to pit his talents against the likes of LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant and Miami Heat sensation LeBron James.
He said: “It’s a dream come true to be playing these guys. I’ve watched some of them grow up and now I’ll be on the court at the same time as them.”
Although a win would be a massive shock to the basketball world, GB have been getting closer to beating one of the top sides after pushing Spain and France close in recent weeks.
Reinking says a landmark victory will come soon: “We’re gaining respect and being competitive over the years. They step it up when they need to. We have to learn to take it to the next gear and knock them off.”
A 17,000 sell-out crowd is expected at the MEN.
Team GB begin their Olympic campaign on Sunday July 29 against Russia.
