Cheshire Jets 84
Sheffield Sharks 86
SHARKS made it a double-winning weekend with their second victory over Cheshire Jets in the space of 48 hours in the BBL Trophy last night in Chester.
The game was in the hands of the home team in the closing stages but Jets couldn’t see it out as they allowed Sharks to overhaul them before missing a game winning three-point attempt in the last few seconds.
A 6-0 burst by the Sharks late in the first quarter gave them a 23-19 advantage at the end of the period. And by half time they were still 40-37 up.
Things looked comfortable for the One Health sponsored Sharks when they moved 51-45 in front during the third period. But Cheshire rallied in front of their home support with a 15-0 run to give themselves a 62-55 lead on their way to a 66-59 advantage at the end of the quarter.
However, four points by summer signing Justin Dobbins tied the match at 82-82 and then Olu Babalola levelled it again at 84-84. It was left to Nate Reinking to score the winning basket in the final seconds to put Sharks in control of their Trophy group.
Dobbins was star man with a double-double of 21 points and 21 rebounds while Reinking and point-guard Jimmy Langhurst showed they could be a lethal backcourt force this season, combining for 37 points.
Sharks scorers: Reinking 23, Dobbins 21, Tuck 13, Langhurst 14, Babalola 6, Lyons 6, Gachette 3.
