Hatters win yet another honour
Sheffield Hatters took the first silverware of the women’s domestic season yesterday, beating Welsh side UWIC Archers at Ponds Forge in the women’s cup final.
Hatters came into the game as underdogs, despite home city advantage, with UWIC starting the game unbeaten in all competitions and with a clear lead in the National League table.
Leading scorers for Hatters were Stephanie Gandy with 27 points and 15 rebounds and Lauren Thomas-Johnson with 13 points and six rebounds.
The Welsh side forged an early lead before Hatters posted eleven unanswered points to wrestle control of the game - a grip they streadfastly refused to release.
Hatters kept their noses in front and prevented their opponents to close out the game with a nine point advantage – the largest of the whole game – to win 65-56.
