A DONCASTER man has been selected to play for the GB Deaf Basketball team.

Darren Probets, from Rossington, an employee at Doncaster Deaf Trust, earned the opportunity to travel to Palermo, Italy, to compete in the Basketball World Championship for the Deaf.

Bobbie Roberts, chair of trustees at Doncaster Deaf Trust, said: “We are extremely proud of Darren and his selection to the GB Deaf Basketball team.

“The Great Britain Deaf Basketball Team is a dynamic team which has competed in various European tournaments in the past four years. Being deaf and a sportsman can be very challenging.”

Ramas Rentelis, president of Deaf Basketball UK, paid tribute to Darren. He said: “Being invited to participate in this competition is an honour that reflects just how dedicated, hard working, and talented each member of the Deaf Great Britain team is.”
