young basketball star Devon Van Oostrum is making a strong bid to be included in the Great Britain squad for the EuroBasket Championship, which starts in Lithuania later this month.
The 18-year-old, who came through the Junior Sharks programme before signing for Spanish Premier League club Caja Laboral, became the youngest top scorer in Team GB’s history as he poured in 18 points in the 95-80 victory against Nigeria on Tuesday evening.
Head coach Chris Finch has already praised the progress of Van Oostrum and his assistant, Paul Mokeski, thinks several young players will be in contention for the final squad. “We’re seeing a lot of talent come up through the programme and they’re pushing some of the older veterans for their places. It’s been an exciting camp,”
Britain now have a week’s preparation for the Olympic Test Event at Stratford where they face France, Croatia, Serbia, China and Australia.
