Captain Anderson tells Sharks hold their heads high
SHEFFIELD Sharks captain Adrian Anderson is demanding that his teammates hold their heads high on Friday night when they face mission impossible at the Newcastle Eagles.
The Sharks trail the Eagles by 32 points after losing the first leg of their BBL Trophy semi-final 84-116 at the EIS last Friday night, but veteran Anderson says now is the time to stand up and be counted. He said: “It will be tough to go up there but we have to play with our heads held high and behave like we’re beaten dogs.
“Newcastle are very confident team even at 0-0 so with a 32 point lead they’ll be even more so. We have to first and foremost play defence and then make them move when we’re on offence.”
Anderson made his return for the Sharks on Saturday in the 74-64 loss at title-chasing Leicester Riders.
Out for several months with a spiral fracture to a metacarpal bone in his left wrist, the defensive specialist is still feeling discomfort.
He said: “I’m just waiting on the results of an MRI scan I had last week.
“There may be a small tear in the wrist. It’s not my shooting hand but passing and catching are still painful.”
Anderson’s experience has been badly missed by the Sharks, particularly with Nate Reinking now out injured and player-coach Atiba Lyons being unavailable.
Anderson said: “It’s a challenging situation. We have to stick together. If I’m needed I’ll do what I can for the team.”
