Battered and bruised, but still playing with plenty of spirit, Sheffield Sharks gave a glimpse of what they can achieve last night at the EIS.

Second placed Worcester Wolves must loathe the site of the Sharks after twice losing in Sheffield by just one point this season. The Wolves have been one of the class acts of the BBL this year as they try to hang on to the coat-tails of Newcastle Eagles at the top of the league.

Sharks, meanwhile, have been scuffling about in mid-table. Injuries and visa problems to key players hasn’t allowed player-coach Atiba Lyons to line up with a full strength squad all campaign.

Last night he had to do without the services of Great Britain guard Nate Reinking through a knee injury.

In his place, playing for the first time in 2012, was fellow Ohio-born backcourt sharpshooter Jimmy Langhurst.

And what a comeback Langhurst made. In action for all 40 minutes he scored the decisive basket with 7.5 seconds remaining to stun the Wolves, who thought they had stolen the match at the death.

The visitors scored the first points of the match but never led again until the impressive Tommy Freeman put them in front at 73-72 with less than 20 seconds to play.

Earlier Sharks had used a 15-2 first quarter run to lead 25-13 after 10 minutes.

Promising young duo Zach Gachette and Colin Sing were again to the fore as Sharks built up a 39-23 advantage midway through the second period. However, giant Lithuanian Amas Kazlauskas helped Wolves to trim the gap to 42-37 with nine points to end the half. Justin Dobbins showed he is returning to fitness with a personal 6-0 run to help Sharks lead 58-52 after three quarters.

And the match was in the balance throughout the final period until Langhurst had the last word.

* SHARKS: Gachette 16, Babalola 16, Langhurst 12, Dobbins 10, Sing 8, Lyons 6, Tuck 6.
