SHEFFIELD Sharks coach Atiba Lyons has praised the role his young players have had in his team’s run of 15 wins from 21 games in 2013.

The trio of Nick Lewis, Colin Sing and Zach Gachette - all students at Sheffield Hallam University - have grown in stature throughout the season and are now a valuable part of the Sharks rotation.

Lyons said: “The guys have benefited from playing regularly for the university team.

“They have built up an excellent chemistry and have had the chance to play a lot of minutes and put up a lot of shots in match situations.”

Lewis, aged 20, Sing, aged 24, and Gachette aged 22, provided the backbone of the university team along with Sharks bench player George Brownell that has seen them promoted to the British Universities Premier League.

Tomorrow Sharks end their BBL Championship regular season at Cheshire Phoenix.
