ATIBA Lyons says Sheffield Sharks have received a ‘wake-up’ call ahead of two important matches this weekend.
The Sharks boss saw his team easily defeated by Leicester Riders on Wednesday night at the EIS just four days after beating the same side in the BBL Trophy final.
Tonight (7.30pm) Sharks take on Cheshire Phoenix at the EIS and tomorrow (4pm) welcome London Lions.
Lyons said: “I’m hoping that it wakes us up again. It’s like a bucket of cold water in your face. The Trophy is over and we have to get back to business.
“The Trophy is over and hopefully this is a kick-start to get us going again and be more focused.
“As great an accomplishment as the Trophy was and as much fun as it was, we have to forget about it.”
Lyons was disappointed that his players couldn’t match Leicester’s intensity and says Cheshire will be equally fired up as Sharks knocked them out of the Trophy. He said: “I was hoping we’d come out a little more energetic but I knew it’d be tough and we’d come out a bit flat. It’s unfortunate that we played the team that we beat. They came out juiced up.
“We definitely have a long way to go for the play-offs. Even to have a shot at it we need to win a lot more games.”
“We need to find that energy level. They’re (Phoenix) like Leicester in a sense, they like to get up and down the floor, they’re athletic. We need to do a better job of finishing around the basket.”
