City of Sheffield Hatters U14 Girls warmed up for this week’s play offs with runners up spot in a tournament in Ireland.
The girls played in the five-team Mary Frisby tournament in Waterford and got off to a bad start with a nervous defeat against the hosts.
However, successive wins against three other local teams took them to the final against Waterford Wildcats. Despite losing a player through injury, Hatters showed they’d got to grips with the physical Irish style of play by matching the Wildcats.
The lead changed hands several times before the Hatters succumbed to a narrow defeat in the final few minutes of a bruising encounter.
The following day some of the U14s teamed up with a selection of U16s and U18s girls to take on a select side from Liffey Celtics in Dublin and ran out 49-45 winners in an evenly matched encounter.
Hatters U14 face Haringey Angels in London tomorrow bidding to reach the National League Final Fours.
