Baker helps Pilks beat Section A leaders

MICK Baker (21-6) starred as Pilkingtons Recreaton beat Doncaster Bowls Association Saturday League Section A leaders Roundwood 172-156.

Thorpe Marsh Bentley pipped visiting Yorkshire Main 183-182. Barry Tomlinson’s 21-8 win for Thorpe Marsh Bentley proved in vain as visiting Roundwood triumphed 186-169. Askern carded a 201-140 Section B win over visiting Armthorpe.

Alan Marrison and Paul Franklin both won 21-9 as Bawtry extended their lead at the top of the table with a resounding victory 210-132 victory over Hexthorpe.

Enoch Walker won 21-8 for Brodsworth, but a hat-trick of 21-9 wins from Chris Jones, Joey Walton and Sid Price earned Denaby the 172-159 victory that kept them in contention for promotion.

Glenyse Cullingworth (21-5), Mick Poppleton (21-7) and Danny Ruffini (21-8) helped Eden Grove-Pegler collect a 187-137 win over Askern in their last home match of the season.

Roundwood C suffered a 173-158 Section C defeat despite good wins for Walter Roden (21-8) and Tony Swancott (21-0), as Dave Hall (21-9) and Ken Markham (21-5) starred for Maltby.

Ken Ramsay (21-6) and Mick Coulson (21-8) helped Parklands lead by 29 points at the halfway point, but Thorne won all the remaining games, with Brian Turner (21-3) stand Dave Downey (21-7) and Paul Raleigh (21-3) were the pick of Wickersley’s winners in their 202-155 victory at Yorkshire Main B. Brian Turner (21-7) and Ivor Parlett (21-5) did well for Thorne B but Yorkshire Main won the match (179-156) thanks to good performances from Joe Dixon and Colin Wheat (both 21-8).

Brothers Ken (21-7) and Ron (21-8) Strutt were the best winners for Bentley Colliery in their 195-142 Section D victory over Rossington B. Bill Poulton (21-7) caught the eye for Parklands B in their 191-153 victory over Bawtry B.

Roger Elston (21-7) was the best of Thorpe Marsh Bentey’s eight winners in their 168-100 Over-60s League Division One win over Pilks Recreation. Thorpe Marsh also beat Rossington 159-123. Barry Tomlinson (21-8), Roger Elston (21-8) and Jack Richardson (21-9) all featured for Thorpe Marsh in their 163-103 win over Roundwood.

Yorkshire Main posted a comforable 155-108 Division Two win over Hexthorpe thanks to Phil Rees (21-7), Terry Mosley (21-9) and Ken Crowcroft (21-6).

Harold Hawson won 21-9 for Thorne in their 164-123 Division Three victory over Pilks Pensioners.

Bawtry B pipped Parklands 150-148. Jean Birch (21-9) and George McLean (21-5) both featured for Parklands B in their 163-119 win over Brodsworth B.

Pilks Pensioners had big wins from John Peters (21-3), Albert Cork (21-7), Roy Leese (21-6) and Gordon Metcalfe (21-1) in their 154-90 success over Bawtry B. Ted Owens and Colin Stothard (21-8) put Bawtry ahead in their Over-60s Doubles League Division One clash against visiting Thorpe Marsh Bentley, but a 21-2 win from last pair Barry Tomlinson and Pete Strutt won the game (64-59) for the visitors. Mick Brooks and Maurice Mortlock (21-8) shone for Adwick in their 84-51 Division Two win at Rossington B.
