HALLAMSHIRE finished fourth in the men’s four stage race and fifth in the women’s three stage race at the Northern Cross Country Relays Championship at Graves Park, Sheffield, on Saturday.
However, a dominant display by their under 17 women’s team gave them the gold medals in their race.
Fiona Bell finished fourth for Hallamshire in a top class opening stage before Hannah Fletcher took them into the lead on the second stage. With star runner Natalia Hackett on the anchor stage, the result was never in doubt. Hackett went further away to clock a time of eight minutes, the second fastest of the race. A solid performance from City of Sheffield led by Bethany Ansell, gave them the bronze medals.
Hallamshire also took silver medals in the under 13 girls race behind Liverpool but ahead of Holmfirth. Amani Wilson, their fastest runner with 5:40, finished third on the opening stage for Hallamshire before Mary McCarthy moved into second place which was held comfortably by Maddie Pearce on the last stage.
Rotherham were runners up in the under 11 girls race through Annabella Johnson, Mia Taylor and Olivia Boulton.
