TESNI Ward is targeting one of three places up for grabs in Great Britain’s London 2012 Olympic squad for the women’s javelin event.
The youngster hopes to qualify for this summer’s squad, having shaken off a long-term leg injury.
Worksop’s Ward, aged 20 and a member of the City of Sheffield Athletics Club, said: “The nature of the sport means it is unusual to go a whole season without injury and I have just recovered from damaging the quad in my leg.
“It has set me back as I had started the season really well and have lost vital time to enhance my performances – but thankfully things are getting back on track.”
Nottinghamshire County Council’s Shining Stars will help fund Ward’s trips and travel expenses as her training regime gathers pace in 2012.
