The first of two Northern Athletics Open indoor meetings takes place at the EIS, Sheffield, on Saturday.

There are events for the senior/under-20 section and for U- 15 athletes.

There is the prospect of an intriguing pole vault clash between local athlete Adam Hague (Dearne ALC) and Harry Coppell (Wigan).

They rank one and two in the UK U- 20 list for this year with Coppell jumping 5.40 metresand Hague only five centimetres behind. Both were achieved in an international meeting in Mannheim, Germany.

In the women’s vault Abigail Roberts, second-ranked British junior with 4.01m, is in the field.

On the track Kristie Edwards (City of Sheffield) goes for a women’s sprint double in the 60 and 150m as does Karla Drew, Zara Hohn, Kelly Clark and Eleanor Rawson, all from the City of Sheffield club.

Matthew Miller and Josh Filleul (City of Sheffield) are in the men’s sprint line up.

Toni Buckingham (Barnsley AC), a prolific winner outdoors, does the women’s shot while Hallamshire’s Oscar Bryce does the U- 20 men’s event.

A strong contender in the U-15 age group is Hallamshire’s Tilly Simpson who is listed for the 600m.
