Tom leads big race challenge

THE English Schools Cross Country Championships take place tomorrow at Catton Hall, Walton-on-Trent, Derbyshire with some strong teams from South Yorkshire.

Tom Bains, top South Yorkshire runner last year, again leads the senior team whilst Beth Ansell and Fiona Bell lead the South Yorkshire challenge in the girls race. Ellie Curran should do well at intermediate level whilst Fiona Lancaster, who has won individual medals in all this season’s championships, lines up in the junior race.

Local distance runners will be in action on Sunday in the South Yorks Half Marathon at Dearnside Centre, Goldthorpe, (10am).
