Chris Thompson, runner-up in last year’s race, returns to Sheffield tomorrow for the BUPA Great Yorkshire 10k run.
Last year he had an epic battle with Australian Craig Mottram whose strong finish took him clear at the end in a time of 28 minutes 50 seconds.
Mottram, who earlier indicated his intention to run again, has withdrawn but a late addition to the elite field is former 10k world record holder Micah Kogo (Kenya) who has a best time of 27:01 for the distance.
Another strong challenger will be Switzerland’s European Marathon champion Viktor Rothlin and Scotland’s Andrew Lemoncello is also in good shape.
Among the local runners is Hallamshire Harriers’ Dave Archer who has the opportunity to improve his best time of 31:10.
Jo Pavey heads the elite women’s field where she continues her long term build up to next year’s Olympic Games.
