JAMES Hope-Gill, former head of the Sheffield and Hallamshire F.A, is readying himself for the ultimate physical test when he and some friends compete in a ‘Spartan Race’ to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital.

The 5K race, in Cambridge on July 29, involves 25 obstacles - a tough challenge, says James. “There will be fire pits, walls to climb, barbed wire to crawl under and a lot of mud and water. Mark Roe and I took part in a similar race in October and thought that taking part again would be a fun, if slightly scary way to raise money.”

James has one eye on November’s 20km ‘Race from Hell’ in London. “To do that race would require some serious training, but it’s something I’ll look at if we manage to raise a lot of money this time round.”
