Sheffield school team storms to national cross country title

A superb performance by Notre Dame School, Sheffield, gave them the juniorgirls team title at the English Schools Cross Country cup final at Formby on Saturday.

They were splendidly led by Zena Hartley who finished 14th and she was followed just one place behind by her team mate Isabel Causer.

With Maggie Naylor 29th and Emma Braithwaite 31st Notre Dame were comfortably clear of runners up Sevenoaks.

Showing impressive depth, Notre Dame also had Annie Naylor and Polly Platts giving creditable performances.

PE teacher Mrs Caroline Kay said: “This is incredible! They are a very talented bunch. They did the school extremely proud. I have never seen so much determination.”

Leading runner Zena Hartley said afterwards: ”This is the best day of my life.”
