Sheffield’s Jess Ennis up for top world award

OLYMPIC heptathlon gold medallist Jessica Ennis has been shortlisted for World Female Athlete of the Year.

Ennis, aged 26, who stormed to glory in London this summer, in contention for the award alongside American sprinter Allyson Felix and New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams.

Felix was a double Olympic champion with victories in the 200m and 4x400m relay, while Adams retained her title.

However, double Olympic champion Mo Farah has missed out on the men’s award after failing to make the three man shortlist of Usain Bolt, Aries Merritt and David Rudisha.
