FORGET Great Britain dominance or even Yorkshire success, one little corner of Attercliffe would have finished higher than Brazil and Spain in the medal table if it was a country.

Six athletes who train at the state-of-the-art English Institute of Sport Sheffield on Coleridge Road secured medals at London 2012, placing it in 20th position on the same number of golds as Jamaica.

Boxing played a large part in the tally with Nicola Adams, Luke Campbell and Anthony Joshua claiming gold, a silver for Fred Evans and bronze for Anthony Ogogo. Sheffield’s own golden girl Jessica Ennis led the medal charge with her gold in the heptathlon.

Lorenzo Clark, director of operations for Sheffield International Venues, which operates EIS Sheffield, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming the medal winners back to EIS Sheffield where they will join our ever growing Hall of Champions!”
