Sheffield Running Club brought back four medals from the first cross country race of the season, the Yorkshire Veterans Championships in Guiseley.

Deborah Platts Fowler won the ladies’ individual silver medal and led home Helen Pickford and Deborah Richards to take silver in the team race just behind Holmfirth Harriers .

In the Mens age 35-49 category, Joe Fowler narrowly missed out on a bronze when he was edged out by Hallamshire’s Darren Newbould.

But he had the satisfaction of leading Trevor Neville and Gareth Irvine to the team gold. Sheffield’s team of Chris Ireland, Ian Alexander Barnes and Jed Turner won the Over-50s Trophy for the fourth time in five years.

The club trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the English Institute of Sport. New members are welcome - visit www.sheffieldrunningclub.co.uk for more information.
