MUKHTAR Mohammed (City of Sheffield) and Hatti Archer (Hallamshire) have been selected to compete in the European Championships in Helsinki starting today.
Both finished runner-up in the UK Championships and Olympic Trials at the weekend but without the Olympic A standard which would have guaranteed them selection for London 2012.
Both did well in Birmingham.
Mohammed finished very strongly to snatch second place in the 800 metres in Birmingham and is a potential medallist at European level.
More important is the Olympic standard of 1:45.60 which Mohammed has yet to achieve, but it is a time within his reach given the right race.
Archer already has the A standard for the steeplechase (8:43) from last year but needs to run it this year to guarantee a place for London.
Her run at Birmingham was her first track race of the year following a hip injury and in the circumstances it was a good performance and one on which she will certainly improve in Helsinki.
Two years ago she narrowly missed a medal with fourth place in the Europeans in Barcelona.
Also in the team for Helsinki is pole vaulter Luke Cutts (Dearne ALC/City of Sheffield).
