Sheffield in relegation fight

City of Sheffield finished seventh in the second British League (Premiers Division) fixture at Hendon on Saturday. They had finished seventh in the first round match which leaves them seventh in the league table, above only newly promoted Kent AC at the half way stage. Kent are destined for relegation with Sheffield needing to pick up points against Liverpool to avoid the same fate.

The UK javelin champion Lee Doran was again Sheffield’s best competitor, winning his event with 74.29. The javelin was the best event for Sheffield with Sam Ellis finishing runner up in the B event with 56.57 following his third place in his main event, the 800 metres (1:51.87). Ellis also ran in the 4x400 relay along with Tim Burn, Rick Beardsall and Liam Ramsay. They won in a time of 3:13.38. Burn also finished runner up in the individual 400 in 47.37.

Tom Gardner did well for Sheffield in the high jump finishing third (2.00) whilst Jamie Williamson was fourth in high quality shot and discus events with marks of 17.08 and 59.58, the latter a personal best. Dan Brunt was runner up in the B shot (14.17).

Tom Grantham ran well to win the B 400 hurdles in 54.70
