City of Sheffield were comfortable winners of the opening round of the Northern League Division 2EC match at Leeds yesterday with Rotherham runners up.
Elliott Hurley, a junior recently recruited from Leeds City, made a winning debut in the 100 metres clocking 10.96 and also won the B long jump with 6.53, Sheffield under 17 Joe Hobson winning the A event with an excellent 6.92.
Tim Burn (City of Sheffield) won a keenly-contested 400 metres in 48.38. In the field events Sheffield took maximum points in the pole vault through Adam Hague (4.90) and Nick Cole (4.60) with Hague also winning the triple jump with 12.30.
Decathlete John Lane (13.82) and Daniel Brunt (13.47) had little trouble in taking maximum points in the shot.
The Barrett sisters were in sparkling form for Chesterfield. Alicia winning the 100 in 12.34 with Ella taking the B race in 12.36. They reversed in the 200 with Ella winning the A race in 25.46 and Alicia taking the B event in 25.72. Both later combined in the winning Chesterfield relay team. Other A string winners included:
