City of Sheffield travel to Newham, in the shadow of the Olympic stadium, tomorrow for the final match in the British League Premier Division.
Sale Harriers are two points clear at the top and Cardiff are doomed to relegation. Enfield and Haringey look certain for the other relegation spot but Sheffield cannot relax. They lie sixth, three points clear of Enfield.
Sheffield will expect high points from the 800 metres. Steve Evison, who has had an outstanding season, is partnered by Rhian Hastey in Sheffield’s best event. This leaves Mohammed Mukhtar free to do the 1500 metres where he is partnered by Jacob Clark. UK champion Lee Doran is expected to win the javelin whilst Liam Ramsay is named for the B event. Ramsay, a talented young decathlete, also does the 100 and possibly the long jump. Another decathlete, Roger Skedd, is another busy Sheffield athlete, named for the 110 hurdles, pole vault, long jump. Matt Hudson should do well in the 110 hurdles and also does the triple jump.
League standings: 1 Sale, 21; 2 Birchfield 19; 3 Woodford Green 18; 4 Newham and Essex 15; 5 Shaftsbury Barnet 13; 6 Sheffield 11; 7 Enfield and Haringey 8; 8 Cardiff 3.
