JESSICA Ennis and Paula Radcliffe - Britain’s best-known female athletes - will compete in a major Northern competition next month.
Sheffield’s Ennis will compete in sprint competitions in ‘The Great Day of Sport’ in Manchester, raising money for charity. World marathon champ Radcliffe will be returning to competitive racing after 15 months out, after having a baby. She’ll be lining up against other professionals and 38,000 athletes who will be raising money on May 15.
Sheffield hosts a Festival of Athletics and the Lord Mayor’s 10k and 3k Fun-run on Sunday. Around 1,000 competitors will take part in the only UK open event which features not only mainstream track and field events but race walking, disability events and a schools challenge.
