Olympic pole vaulter Luke Cutts back in action with Sheffield victory

Cutts, 28, who is the UK Champion both indoors and out, cleared a modest 5.20 to beat his Sheffield team mate Nicolas Cole (4.80).

Another Sheffield athlete, Josh Lindley-Harris, was top junior equalling his personal best of 4.40 whilst Abigail Roberts from the same training group was top woman with 3.90.

Barnsley duo Hannah Bird and Joe Fergusonlanded doubles in the 60 and 150 metres. Bird clocked 8.05 and 19.07 whilst U20 Ferguson ran 7.17 and 16.80

Decathlete Aiden Davies did an unusual double in the 1000 metres (2:41.02) and shot (12.94).

Best performance of the meeting came in the U15 600 metres where Hallamshire’s Gabriel Gisborne outclassed the opposition in a superb time of 1:30.65.

Hallamshire’s Andy Heyes finished fifth in the UK Cross Challenge at Milton Keynes. Andy Vernon (Aldershot) was an impressive winner.

James Gormley (Sheffield and Dearne) won the U20 race by 80 metres.

Rotherham duo Zara Knappy and Sam Johnson were 18th and 22nd In the women’s race.

* Sheffield Schools dominated the junior girls section of the English Schools Cross Country Cup (East Midlands division) at Leeds Grammar School on Saturday. With their four counters in the top 10 places they were well clear of runners up Mount St Mary’s.

Maggie Naylor led the way for Notre Dame in sixth place and she was closely followed by Emma Braithwaite (8th), Isabel Causer (9th) and Annie Naylor (10th) giving the rest no chance.

The Mount St Mary’s counters were Freya Dalby (5th), Summer Thomas (12th), Jess Finlay (13th) and Aimee Asaba (39th).

In the intermediate girls section Jodie Hill was outstanding in second place leading Tapton to fourth place.
