The South Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championships take place tomorrow at Winterhill, Rotherham.

Luke Cotter (Rotherham) is favourite for the senior boys title with James Gormley and Jonathon Shields and Cameron Bell, all from Sheffield, contesting the intermediate race. At junior level Alfie Manthorpe and Julian Slater are strong contenders. In the junior girls race a strong trio of Sheffield runners will go for the top places, Amelia Lancaster, Ana Garcia, Emily Simpson, along with Alice Moore (Barnsley).

Places are at stake for the South Yorks teams to run in the English Schools Championships at Castle Donnington on March 15. The programme is: 10:15 Intermediate Girls and Senior Girls 10:35 Year 7 Boys 10:50 Year 7 Girls 11:05 Junior Boys 11:30 Junior Girls 11:50 Intermediate Boys 12:15 Senior Boys.

It is a busy weekend for some of the schools competitors. Alfie Manthorpe and Julian Slater are entered for the under 15 800 metres at the Northern Indoor Championships at Sheffield’s EIS on Sunday whilst Amelia Lancaster and Emily Simpson are listed for the girls 800.

The indoor championships start at 10:30am.
