Local athletes shine in Yorkshire event

There was further success for South Yorkshire athletes on the second day of the Yorkshire Championships.

Daniel Gardiner (City of Sheffield) won the hurdles and long jump on Sunday whilst his team mate Liam Ramsay won the hurdles and high jump in the junior age group. His high jump of 1.90 was better than the senior winner.

Rotherham’s Rhian Hastey edged the 800 metres event in a time of 1:54.17, narrowly beating Hallamshire’s Andy Heyes who had won the 1500 metres on the Saturday.

Adam Khan (City of Sheffield) won the under 17 100m hurdles, completing a treble having also won the long and triple jumps. Also at under 17 level, Joe Anderson (City of Sheffield) had a massive win by some 13 metres in the javelin with a throw of 47.32.

In the women’s events, Amy Hill (City of Sheffield) won the shot with a throw of 13.60. At under 17 level, Abigail Bishell (City of Sheffield) won the 100 and her Sheffield team mate Lucy Hodgson came out on top in the triple jump to add to her high jump success on the opening day.

Another Sheffield double winner was Kristie Edwards who completed a sprint double by winning the 200 metres in 27.11 in the under 15 age group whilst Doncaster’s Lucy Chappell emerged victorious in the high jump and long jump.
