KRISTIE Edwards, the U17 City of Sheffield sprinter, celebrated two successes, last weekend.
First the 15-year-old managed to navigate through the snow from her home in Wickersley, Rotherham, to reach Birmingham’s Alexandra Stadium, to compete in the Midland Counties final indoor competition of the winter season.
Then the Northern Champion put in a fine performance in the 60m, charging home in a time of 7.75 seconds, just 100th off her own PB. Later in the 100m sprint her time was 12.12 was just outside her PB of 11.96 which she ran at the Olympic stadium in last season’s UK School Games.
Kristie was top of the tree on the day and first in both distances in not only her own age group but also the fastest female of the day in all age groups including U20 and Seniors. Running on one of only a few indoor 100m tracks in the country also spurred Kristie on to beating the meeting record, a title she had actually set the previous year
Things are looking good for Kristie under the guidance of her coach Lueng Man, although she is training under the cloud of the closure of Don Valley Stadium. She is hoping to advance towards more titles and a GB vest.
