HE had number 1 on his shirt and Julian Lings beat hundreds of runners in the 2011 Sheffield Endcliffe Park 10K.

Returning to Endcliffe for a second year, the route snakes along trails and covered paths; a fun course for all levels of runner. The location, and two lap format, attracted almost 900 competitors.

Sheffield-born Julian, now living in Hertfordshire, celebrated a return home with a time of 34 minutes, 37 seconds.

Julian said: “It’s a good course, there’s a good hill sprint. I grew up in Sheffield so I love the hills. It was a great homecoming.” (See Endcliffe video on thestar.co.uk)

Dave Thompson (Barnsley AC) was first Yorkshireman home at the 15 mile road race ay Holmfirth. Overall, Thompson (85:59) was runner up, behind marathon international Andi Jones (Salford.) Thompson was well backed up by Mark Hall, 12th, who won the over 50 award and Dave Brooksbank, 15th.
