Jessica Ennis-Hill has been named in the British team to compete in the World Championships in Moscow next month.

There was never any doubt about her inclusion, even though she has not competed on the track since winning the Olympic heptathlon. There are still big meetings where Ennis-Hill could contest individual events before the Championships as she returns from injury. She won’t want to risk going there without the reassurance of a decent performance in some of the disciplines.

Luke Cutts (Dearne ALC/Sheffield) misses out, the selectors naming just Olympic finalist Steve Lewis for the event.

Cutts beat Lewis in the UK Championships last weekend.

So he has every right to feel aggrieved. His personal best, set last weekend, of 5.65 gave him the B standard for the second successive weekend. Lewis has achieved the A standard but only indoors. Under the rules, Cutts could have been included as well as Lewis, the selectors having the option to pick one B standard athlete.
