Dronfield gym owner Matt Sanderson put on an display of a lifetime in Australia.
Despite suffering from an Achilles’ heel injury, he finished 81st out of a field of 1,500 in the Iron Man Western Australia event.
The event was one of two triathlons he competed in in aid of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital charity. Sanderson had been concerned about his injury before flying out, as it had restricted his training programme. And the pain kicked in shortly into the marathon part of the epic race, however he finished with flying colours and is now resting, in Perth.
Jeremy Jerkiewicz of France won the event.
