IT is proving another successful season on the track for Doncaster Athletic Club.
The club finished third behind Gateshead and Wakefield in in the four-race series in their National Young Athletes League (North Eastern Premier Division) campaign catering for U13, U15 and U17 age groups.
That qualified them to compete in the Northern Area finals at Manchester’s Sports City against the other top three clubs from the North East Premier, together with the top four from the North West Premier Division.
On a very wet and windy day they finished fifth overall. But, for the third consecutive year, they were the highest placed club in Yorkshire, finishing comfortably ahead of both Wakefield and Sheffield.
The National Junior League (Humber Division), catering for for U17 and U20 athletes, has seen Doncaster once more taking on local rivals, Sheffield, Rotherham, Scunthorpe, Boston and Hull.
Going into this weekend’s final league fixture at Scunthorpe, Doncaster are currently sitting on top of the division followed by Scunthorpe and Sheffield.
The club are hoping to do enough to finish the season as champions. But they should qualify for the play-off final for the Northern Premier Division promotion match at Cudworth in late August.
