Adam Hague (Dearne ALC) won the English under 20 pole vault title at Sheffield’s EIS yesterday after a close contest.
Hague won by virtue of a 5.10 clearance to topple the favourite Harry Coppell (Wigan), bronze medallist in last year’s World Youth Games.
Hague is from the same stable as Luke Cutts who competes for the World Indoor title next week. Another Dearne athlete coached by Trevor Fox, Abigail Roberts, was third in the under 20 women’s event with a clearance of 3.90. There was a stunning 200 metres win for Billie Jo Harris (City of Sheffield). She started fast from the outside lane and had a lead at half way, holding her form well to come home clear in 25.19. On the first day, Harris had taken the bronze medal in the 60 metres.
Chesterfield’s Alicia Barrett was unable to retain her title in the under 17 60 metres hurdles finishing runner up in a photo finish.
Kristie Edwards, a finallist in the 60 metres, did well to take bronze in the 200 where winner Dina Asher-Smith set a British Junior record with 23.15
